What's a good do-it yourself pre-nuptial agreement?
My fiance and I have agreed to draw up a pre-nuptial agreement since we both each own a (separate) small business and separate property. I understand that it's smarter to hire a lawyer for this purpose but with the economy the way it is, it can be pretty expensive. We are looking for a (do-it-yourself) service that provides good and all-inclusive language that will protect each of us in case (God help this never happens) divorce ever comes into the picture. We're even considering a hybrid type of agreement where the stipulations are removed after a set time, say five years ( so I read somewhere)
.P.S I love my fiance, as she loves me, but a quick reality check -- 1 out of 3 first marriages end up in divorce. It gets higher for later marriages ...this is the furthest thing in our minds - but it makes sense if your in love and you have assets. Also do-it-yourself pre-nuptials exist - just google it
I actually think that pre-nups should be a legal requirement of marriage in the West, as they are in many Eastern cultures.
My advice to you is DON'T stint on the lawyer. It won't cost much if you draft your intentions and just let him draw up a legally binding agreement from your draft. It will be a lot less expensive than getting it wrong, if as you said God forbid, you should need to rely on it.
