Why do car companies continue to make SUVs and crossovers?
Almost every commercial or magazine ad shows a new SUV or Crossover from various car compainies. Although they acheive better mileage than previously and hybrids are being introduced, I don't think we're helping the situation of high gas prices.
Women are all buying SUV's and crossovers now. It's what they all want. The car companies are forced to make what people buy, because honestly, they're broke. GM and Ford and Chrysler are all going bankrupt.
They could just say "we refuse to sell you what you want" but you know what? They'd be out of business in 6 months. GM could get away with that in 1957. You had to buy what they made (which explains their lack of survival instinct, which persists to this day). It's not like that anymore.
GM used to say "we produce what America wants right before they realize they want it." They no longer have that power.
